Lenovo Room Configurator
Redesign of a web app that allows users to configure conference room setups for Lenovo – a global technology company known for its innovative B2B solutions, including enterprise-grade PCs, servers, workstations, and smart devices.
The brief
This project focused on redesign of a web-based interactive tool for the Tech Today site, allowing users to customise conference room setups and explore product specifications. The aim was to create a more engaging experience that highlighted the flexibility and scalability of Lenovo’s Smart Collaboration solutions. The focus was on streamlining the UI, particularly on mobile devices, where the original layout occupied too much space and pushed key elements out of view, resulting in excessive scrolling and poor usability.
One of the most significant improvements was shifting from selecting individual products to using pre-configured bundles. This change simplified the tool’s logic, made the experience more intuitive, and reduced the likelihood of user error.
Key updates:
-
Revamped the UX and UI with a strong focus on mobile usability
-
Improved the visibility and interactivity of 3D room and product visuals
-
Expanded room options to offer a wider range of configurations
-
Integrated the latest products to keep the tool up to date

Research
I worked closely with the strategy team and the client to define user personas and key requirements for the new tool. I also carried out competitor research and a UX review of existing configurator tools to identify best practices we could bring into the project.

Wireframing and prototyping
Building on insights from the research phase, I created low-fidelity wireframes and worked closely with the client and strategy team to refine them. Through collaboration, we added fidelity to the wireframes in order to ensure alignment with project objectives and key learnings from the previous version of the tool. I also created prototypes in order to help with the approval, and for user testing purposes.

User testing
I explored two layout options and carried out user testing to help decide which one worked best. Using participants based on the personas from the research phase, we gathered useful insights that guided our decision. This approach helped us choose the layout that best suited the target audience and gave everyone confidence in the direction we were taking.

Design
The UX phase helped us lock in the direction for the layout, UI, and functionality, which meant the design phase could focus more on aesthetics and delivering the project objectives.
My main focus was on improving usability across all breakpoints, with particular attention to mobile. I made sure that key content stayed visible, even on smaller screens. I also wanted the 3D visuals of the rooms and products to take centre stage, making them feel interactive and purposeful, rather than just decorative.

Build preparation and QA
I organised all the necessary content for the developers in line with internal trackers, making it easier to navigate the options and customisation features. I also carried out QA on the final tool and worked closely with the developers to fix any issues or bugs that came up.

Final result
The revamped room configurator has a clean, mobile-friendly UI that improves usability and cuts down on unnecessary scrolling. Updated 3D visuals and interactive features make the experience more engaging, while switching to pre-configured bundles makes selection easier and helps avoid user errors. With more room options and the latest products added, the tool feels more intuitive, flexible, and future-proofed.
